## It's 11pm. You need to know

What's due tomorrow, which slides you skipped, what you need on the final, and if you can still get an extension. UniOne has already read Canvas, your timetable and your notes, so the answer is one glance away.

## Today: open it and know what's next

Today opens on one line that says what matters now ("Lecture in 40 minutes.", or the report due tomorrow), with a box to ask Ori and suggestions from your week under it. Then it answers four questions in order: what's next, what's due, what to revise and what changed. A class in the next 90 minutes comes before a deadline next week.

- Next up: your next class with its slides, or the next thing due when no class is close.
- What changed: new marks, new files, moved due dates and announcements, in one list you can mark as seen. A released mark stays hidden until you open it.
- The week you're in: Week 9 of 13, the mid-semester break, STUVAC or exams, from the University's own calendar.

## Deadlines: every deadline, with its weight, its AI rule and its extension window

Canvas, the exam timetable and the ones you add yourself, in one table. Open a deadline to see whether AI is allowed, write your AI acknowledgement, and see when you can still ask for more time.

- The AI rule, per deadline, read from your unit outline.
- Write my AI statement: UniOne logs where you used AI on a task and writes the acknowledgement your unit asks for.
- The extension clock: a simple extension of up to 5 calendar days can be requested from 5 days before the due date until the due date, and not for exams or group work. Special consideration is due within 3 working days after the due date.

## Units and class mode: slides on one side, your notes on the other

When your timetable says a class has started, UniOne opens that week's slides beside your notes, once, with a Not now. Press Enter to stamp the slide you are on.

- Your notes are plain Markdown files in a folder you pick, one folder per unit. Obsidian opens the same files.
- Make turns a week into clean notes, flashcards or practice questions. The result goes in its own file and your notes are never rewritten.
- Dictation is turned into text on your Mac, never on a server.
- Every unit keeps its own colour: on its cover in Units (drawn from the colour, no photos), its badge in the sidebar and across the top of its own pages. Each cover shows what's next and your mark so far, worked out on your Mac from what Canvas has released, never an official result.

## Ori: give it a folder, keep what it makes

Ori is UniOne's companion, with its own place in the sidebar. Start a project for an assessment, point it at that folder in your notes and add your files. Ask, and what Ori makes opens beside the chat: a document for the folder, cards for Revise, a study plan for your calendar.

- A project works in a folder inside your notes: a unit folder, an assessment's workspace or a new folder. Ori says which file and page an answer came from, and writes into the folder only when you press Save, never over a file and never deleting one. A project linked to an assessment follows that assessment's AI rule and adds to its AI-use log.
- Drag, drop or paste files and images into a chat or a project. PDFs and Word documents open beside the chat.
- Documents save to the folder as Markdown. Flashcards join Revise only once you keep them. A study plan goes on your UniOne calendar.
- Ori keeps short notes of what a chat settled, says when it uses them ("Using 2 memories"), and lists every one in Brain to edit or delete. Incognito chats are never saved and never remembered.
- Nothing goes to Anthropic until you press Send, and you see what goes first.

## Ori: lives in your notch, and answers from anywhere

On a MacBook, Ori also lives in the notch. Your next class waits in its wings. Rest the pointer on it to see what's due. Press Command-J on any page to ask beside it, or Command-Shift-O from any app to ask a question or jot a note.

- A mark never appears in the notch until you click, because a shared screen shows the notch too.
- Hover only peeks. Only a click, a swipe down or Command-Shift-O opens Ori.
- On a Mac without a notch, Ori floats as a small orb instead.

## Revise: cards from your own notes, spaced so you remember them in week 15

UniOne drafts cards from your notes, you keep the ones worth keeping, and each comes back just before you would forget it. Near the exam it becomes a plan: study blocks from today to the exam date.

## Works with

- Canvas: units, deadlines, files, announcements and marks, read with a token you make in your Canvas settings. UniOne only reads.
- Sydney Timetable: your classes, from your timetable's calendar link.
- Your Claude key: Ori, Make, cards and rubric checks run on your own Anthropic key. One switch turns every AI feature off.

## Your Canvas token never leaves your laptop

- Stays on your Mac: your Canvas token and Claude key (in the macOS Keychain), your notes (Markdown in a folder you pick, with Ori's projects inside it), and your marks, drafts, cards, chats, Ori's memory and AI-use log.
- Goes where you send it: Canvas, read with your token straight from your Mac; Anthropic, only when you press Send, after a preview of exactly what goes, on your key; your timetable link; and a page you paste into Ori (its title, author and date).
- Passes through UniOne: your account (email, name, a hash of your password, when you signed in and which Macs are signed in) and the update check. Never your coursework.

## Get started: three steps, about ten minutes

1. Download. Open the file and drag UniOne to Applications. It is signed and notarised by Apple.
2. Create your account in the app: your name, your email and a password. The password is kept only as a hash. We email you a 6-digit code to confirm the address.
3. Connect your semester: Canvas, your timetable link and a notes folder. Add a Claude key if you want the AI features.

## Questions

**Is it free?** Yes. The AI features run on your own Anthropic key, which you pay Anthropic for directly. Light use is usually a few dollars a month.

**Do I need a Claude key?** Only for the AI features: asking Ori about your units and files, Make, drafting cards and checking a draft against its rubric. Everything else works without one. A Claude Pro or Max subscription cannot be used by apps.

**I forgot my password.** In UniOne, choose Forgot password and enter your email. We email you a 6-digit code from hello@mail.unione.study; enter it and set a new password. The code works for 15 minutes. If the email does not arrive, Josh can still make a one-time reset code by hand: email hello@unione.study.

**Is this an official University of Sydney app?** No. UniOne is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the University of Sydney.

**Am I allowed to use AI on my assignment?** Your unit outline decides, for each assessment. UniOne shows the rule it read from the outline and turns AI help off where it is not allowed, but the outline is the rule.

**Is there a Windows version?** Not yet. Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later only.

## For agents

- UniOne is a native macOS app (Tauri), not a web app. Canvas is read from the student's Mac with their own token; no UniOne server sits between the student and Canvas.
- UniOne contacts six places: the UniOne account server, this site (for updates), Canvas, Anthropic, the student's timetable link and a page they paste into Ori. The full list with what each is sent is at https://unione.study/privacy.md.
- Accounts are email and password. Passwords are stored only as scrypt hashes. The address is confirmed with a 6-digit code emailed from hello@mail.unione.study (through Resend), and a forgotten password is reset the same way; Josh can still make a one-time reset code by hand as a fallback, asked for at hello@unione.study.
- Ori's workspace: projects that each work in a folder inside the student's notes folder, uploads, artifacts (documents, tables, code, flashcards, quizzes, study plans, static pages) beside the chat, and a memory of short notes the student can read, edit and delete. Ori writes only into the project's folder, only on Save, never overwriting. Incognito chats are never saved or remembered.
- Everything shown in the site's product pictures is a sample semester for a sample student.

## Limits

- Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later only. No Windows, no web version, no phone app.
- Beta. Things will break. Students should keep their own backups of their notes folder.
- AI features need the student's own Anthropic API key.
- UniOne is a student project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the University of Sydney. Canvas is a product of Instructure. Claude is a product of Anthropic.
